Baby, a 10-year-old girl in Safeda Basti, is severely underweight. Diarrhea and malnutrition are endemic in the slum, says health worker Balram Yadare, “so children aren’t progressing at the level they should.” Toilets are scarce here, and the water supply for handwashing is intermittent.
